It is no longer news that the Member representing Kabba/Bunu and Speaker Kogi State House of Assembly; Rt. Hon. Prince Yomi Kolawole recently held an unpopular, despicable and abhorred meeting in Abuja where he undemocratically came to a conclusion of a certain Mr Wemi Jones from Bunuland as sole aspirant of the APC at the forthcoming house of representative primary elections.
As the 2019 general elections draw closer, It is pertinent to mention that that the constituents of Rt. Hon Prince Yomi Kolawole in Kabba/Bunu District does not see the politician as the political leader of the district hence unfit to make such derogatory remark in a feasible democratic setting. In the same premise, we appeal to His Excellency, The Executive Governor of Kogi State to disregard, neglect and turn a blind eye to the purported imposition of candidature.
The Speaker, in his own selfish, ungenerous and covetous interest held a meeting with absence of key stake holders of the APC in the axis, this alone is enough proof of a self-indulgent and egocentric representative who is desperately seeking reelection into the state house of assembly without minding whose oz is goosed. The office of the House of Representatives for Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu is apparently open to all aspirants as there is currently no formal or conventional zoning arrangement in the area.
It is however noteworthy that the Bunu axis of the Kabba/Bunu as at today has the highest political appointments in the present government, they include;
-Hon. Toba Kehinde : Commissioner For Agriculture
-Hon. Omodara: Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters.
-Hon. Moses Olorunleke: Sole Administrator, Kabba/Bunu Local Government
-Hon Abel: PPS to the Deputy Governor
-Hon Gbenga Olorunpomi and much more, meanwhile the only key political office occupied by a Kabba inidigene is the position held by Rt. Hon. Prince Yomi Kolawole.
Prior to the primary elections that brought in the speaker under the platform of the PDP in 2015, it will be recalled how the Rt. Hon. Prince Kolawole vehemently opposed the stance of his party when a set of party stalwarts endorsed another aspirant.
Objectively, conventional and in all fairness, the position of the house of assembly is supposed to be rightly allotted to the Bunu axis, since the present occupier is a Kabba Man, while the office of the local government chairman stays in Kabba.
No one in the history of Kabba Bunu has ever represented the constituency two consecutive tenure at the state assembly, but owing to the Speaker’s self seeking ambition in the face of desperation he is undemocratically rooting for a Bunu man as the party flag bearer’s for the office of house of representatives which is unwholesome in the highest degree. The custom of endorsing an aspirant by an individual is obsolete, primitive and are not in accordance with Nigerian democratic values.
In conclusion, as we all look forward to ways in charting a new course for the future Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, the ever loving people of Oweland, shall resist and reject attempts directly or by proxy to impose candidates on our people in the forthcoming primary elections into the office of house of representatives, we believe the power to elect a leader rests exclusively with the electorate.
