The Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Kogi State, Dr. Remi Odutola has urged the people of the area to unite and work for the development of the area.
Dr. Odutola made the call in a message at the mid-year Conference of Ijumu Development Movement (IDM) at Ogidi. The Chairman, who was represented by the Vice-Chairman of the local government, said the call became imperative in order to move the area forward.
The Chairman called on illustrious sons and daughters of the area to come home and invest in the area in order to provide employment for the teeming youths.
Earlier, the National President of IDM, Associate Professor Reuben Tolorunleke, said the conference would organise the First Ijumu Development Summit tagged: IYARA SUMMIT 2014, is aimed at brainstorming on how to move the area forward to an enviable height and commended the traditional Institute especially the Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom, HRM Oba (Dr.) Jerome Sumanu for the peace and development of the area.
Prof. Tolorunleke called on the people to be supportive of their political leaders and elective representatives towards ensuring proper commitment to the area and called on political appointees and political office holders to demonstrate more patriotism and accountability to attract dividends of democracy to the area.
He appreciated the state government for sending relief materials to victims of Iffe fire disaster and lamented the attitude of the company involved and described it as insensitive to the plight of the victims.
