A politician, Hon Isaiah Ijele, has commended the Chairman of Omala local government, Hon. Mark Edibo, for his commitment to ending violence in the area.

In a statement on Thursday, Hon Ijele said the council chairman’s visit to the crime scene in Omagede Otutubatu yesterday might look simple, but was a remarkable moment for the people as it showed someone cared about their suffering.

Ijele accused Ihiakpe boys for the violence in Otutubatu, absolving the usual Fulani suspects.

“Your visit demonstrates a commitment to ending the violence caused by the Ihiakpe boys.

“It is crucial to state publicly that some recent attacks in the Bagana axis involved the Ihiakpe boys. The last attack was not by Fulani, but by Ihiakpe boys who hired Agatu boys to attack us. This is known by our eyewitnesses on the ground.

“These boys invited Fulani into our land, and now they want to start another act of sabotage, which we must all fight against. They want to make us enemies of the Agatu youths for retaliation, but we are calming everyone down and leaving it to the authorities. At least, for the first time, we are seeing back-to-back visits to show solidarity,” he said.

He called on the council chairman to prioritize safety of the people in the area.
