It is common knowledge that the Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, is undoubtedly the indisputable leader of the APC in Kogi State and a powerful national voice.

Unless you returned from Antarctica less than a week ago, you must be familiar with the growing clamour for the governor to join the race for Aso Rock in 2023.

The powerful surge in the ‘PYB 2023 Project’ has been buoyed significantly by the state House of Assembly endorsement, his unrivaled management of the Covid-19 pandemic in the state and his unprecedented massive inclusion of women in traditionally masculine political offices.

Equally significant is the governor’s ingenious public directive on December 14 2020 that the post of Secretary to the Local Government in all the 21 local government areas in the state be allocated to all the local government coordinators of the National Youths Council of Nigeria. A move that attracted commendations from various organizations and groups including the national body of the NYCN.

The governor is not one of the leaders of the party. He is the leader of the party. His directive, especially one so publicly made and widely acclaimed, should not be altered in any form. Reversing it is not far from impossible.

Sadly, such is the audacious move being attempted by some ill meaning self seeking individuals in Igalamela/Odolu. These people will stop at nothing to drive home their objective and make the governor, a decisive leader, look weak before Kogi citizens and Nigeria at large.

Atabor Tijani (Osla) is by the proclamation of the governor, the man for the post of Secretary to Igalamela/Odolu local government area.

Atabo Tijani is deeply ‘grassrooted.’ He hails from Ajaka Ward I and is widely popular among natives. His support for Governor Bello and the APC has remained unwavering.

His credentials speak competence and capacity. From the most basic of beginnings as Chairman of Motorcycles Transport Association from 1995 to 1999, he progressed steadily to become the Admin Officer to the Director of Local Government and Head of Local Government Administration in the local government. He is a career civil servant with over 20 years unblemished service and experience in local government administration.
His exploits in unionism saw him emerge NULGE Auditor in 2004, Treasurer in 2007 and recently began his term as Secretary to the union.

In the NYCN, he served as PRO, Treasurer, Vice Chairman and presently Coordinator of the foremost youth group which the governor has wisely endorsed for SLGs.

Atabo popularly known as Osla is not only competent, his support for this government is unequivocal. He has expressed confidence in his ability to establish an outstanding working relationship with the ‘capable’ leadership of the of local government led by Hon. Ignatius Omachonu Onoja, which will be instrumental in the years ahead.

The governor’s directive must not be overlooked in the appointment of all SLGs. We shall keep our eyes widely open to see the individuals with the powers to upend the brilliant directive of the governor.
