Patrick Onogu, Igalamela-Odolu Administrator has called on Herdsmen and indigenous communities to imbibe the spirit of oneness in the interest of peace and harmonious coexistence.
Hon. Onogu made the call during a visit to Achokpa, Ojibokoli and Ikeffi indigenous communities.
The move, according to the Administrator became necessary in order to “address herders/farmers issues which have heightened tensions recently in order to avert escalation in violence. Peace is achievable but only if we agree to live as one and see each other as brothers and sisters.
“I wish to condemn in the strongest terms the recent attacks in the local government which culminated in the tragic death of a herdsman and strongly caution against any form of reprisal attacks against innocent indigenous people.”
He also urged all parties involved to seek constitutional means of addressing crisis and warned that his administration will not hesitate to deal decisively with individuals or groups that take laws into their own hands.
He equally called on security agencies within the area to intensify efforts towards bringing all perpetrators of violence to justice.

He assured the people of his readiness to intensify partnership with security agencies in order to ensure the safety of all lives and properties.
In addition, the Special Adviser to the Administrator on Farmers/Herdsmen Matters, Mallam Alih Ademu who accompanied the administrator, also emphasised the need to employ the use of dialogue to avoid tension and violence.
He described Hon. Onogu as a man “whose doors are open at all times to suggestions, complaints or useful information that can better secure the local government for socio-economic growth.
The Gago Achokpa, Mr James Abu blamed the situation on lack of tolerance, communication and respect for everyone’s rights. He called on all partied involved to embrace peace and dialogue when disputes arise.
Some of the community leaders present were Udale Isah (youth leader Achokpa), Mamudu Ojogbane (Madaki Ojibokoli), Adama Akpai (youth leader Ojibokoli), Muhammad Awal (Imam Ojibokoli).
