Igala vanguard has sent a message of congratulation to a former senator from Kogi East, Nicholas Yahaya Ugbane after a Federal High Court exonerated him of fund diversion charges.
Ugbane, a member of the 5th/6th senate, was accused of diversion of funds running into billions of naira meant for the defunct PHCN to fix some power installations.
In a judgement delivered by a federal high court in Abuja by Justice Oniyangi in favour of Senator Nicholas Yahaya Ugbane and two others, the court dismissed the case before the court filed by the EFCC against the ex-lawmaker as lacking merit and nothing incriminating found against the senator.
Igala Vanguard, in a statement signed by the convener, Engr, Lawrence Akpa, said Kogi Easterners believed Ugbane should have done better for the region as a Senator considering his experience as a banker and former commissioner. The group congratulated him on the favourable court judgement and urged him to learn from his past mistakes.
The group described the quashing of the criminal allegations against Ugbane as a well though out judgement to give victory and freedom to those who have distinguished themselves to the services of their father land.
Senator Ugbane, who was chairman senate committee on power, contributed immensely to the robust privatisation of defunct NEPA to PHCN which led to the full privatisation of the power sector in Nigeria.
