Comrade Idris Miliki Abdul, the Executive Director of Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR), a Lokoja-based civil society organization, a undoubtedly a household name.
After years in active pro-democracy crusades in Nigeria, the People’s Comrade decided to re-locate to his home state 18 years ago. His fatherland, Kogi state, was in dire need of “a voice” that will continuously speak for the people. He saw the gap and decided to fill it.
18 years down the lane, Comrade Miliki has remained a consistent, vibrant and irrepressible voice of the people. He is not one to shy away from any issues that undermines the rights of the people, regardless of whose ox is gored. He is brutally frank.
His organization, CHRCR, is renowned for being proactive and engaging.
Miliki is not flexible, a stickler for the rules in speech and acts. He strictly adheres to the rules and nothing else. With him, rules are rules and nothing else matters. He condemns an actor for failing the public in one breathe and commends same actor when he finds his/her actions worthy of applause. That is the man Miliki.
Over the years, he has consistently questioned questionable actions and inactions of state and non-state actors. He demands for justice, equity and fairness without sentiments. He relentlessly advocates for good governance, transparency and accountability from public office holders. He proactively engage stakeholders for credible elections. He confronts abuse of human rights with unusual vigor and pursues any cause he believes in with all he has. These qualified him to be christened the ‘Conscience of the Confluence State’
On this day, we join other well wishers to celebrate the cerebral, unbroken, irrepressible Comrade Idris Miliki Abdul on his 59th birthday.
