Kogi state is yet to build a reputation for sustained agitations and activism among other states in the country. Recent mass movements in Nigeria like the 2012 #OccupyNigeria, 2020 #EndSARS did not record much agitations in the confluence state.

Despite boasting of great union leaders and renown activists like Asani Sunmonu, Dr. Segun Maiyegun, former NANS President, Comrade Kabiru Tijani; Comrade Victor Arokoyo, Deji Adeyanju, Tom Ohikere, Austin Usman Okai and a host of others who led reputable associations like Nigeria Union of Journalists, Nigeria Bar Association to mention a few, the activism and advocacy terrain in Kogi does not reflect the proven mettle of these legends.

Reason is, these great activists and advocacy gurus operates largely outside Kogi state.

However, the decision of Comrade Idris Miliki Abdul to relocate to Kogi about two decades ago is changing the narrative.

Miliki, the Executive Director of Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR), has grown to become a household name in Kogi when it comes to demanding accountability from public office holders and demanding that rights of commoners be respected.

Formerly known as Centre for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution, CHRCR has been in the fore-front of most agitations for good governance, probity, transparency and accountability in electoral processes, and unflinching demand for respect for human rights.

Always armed with undeniable facts, Miliki is changing the advocacy and activism field in Kogi state with his unrelenting activities that made stand out as a meteor among stars.

Unbiased and not given to petty sentiments, Miliki has been irrepressible as he discharged his pro-masses duties without fear or favour.

On this special day, it is imperative that we take out time and give a standing ovation to the outstanding Comrade as he marks 56 years birthday anniversary.

His landmark agitation for people’s budget through advocacies for public hearing, meticulous research on sector by sector allocations in Kogi state budgetary system year in, year out, is worthy of commendation.

His insistence on the integrity of the ballot and wide observation activities during elections is applaudable.

Miliki has devoted most of his adult life to worthy causes, and we want to take a moment to salute his fighting spirit.

Kogi is proud of you, Comrade Idris Miliki.
