A former Kogi East senatorial aspirant, Engr. John Ibrahim Ocheje has been elected as the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Idah, Ibaji, Igalamela/Odolu and Ofu Federal Constituency ahead of the 2023 general elections.

In a primary election conducted by the party to elect the candidate for Idah Federal Constituency, Engr. Ocheje polled a total of 49 votes to defeat his closet rival Hon. Victor Uchola who scored a total of 40 votes.

Engr. Ocheje who was elected as the candidate of the PDP for Idah Federal Constituency hails from Ojiala in Ayah Ward of Ibaji local government area of Kogi State. He had worked with one of the mega oil companies, the Chevron Nigeria Plc for over twenty-seven year.

Engr. Ocheje has been advocating for power shift in the constituency to Ibaji local government area to enable the party defeat any potential candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC). Ibaji local government area of Kogi State has been widely known for delivering bloc votes to PDP except in 2019 when Engr. Ocheje defected to the ruling APC.

With the victory of Engr. Ocheje, the opposition PDP may be coasting near to victory to reclaim the constituency’s seat from the APC as the four local government areas in the constituency are known for delivering massive votes to PDP even in the last gubernatorial election in 2019.

Highlights of the total 127 votes scored by the aspirants in the primary election are as follows; Engr Ocheje-49 votes Hon. Victor Uchola-43 votes, Hon. Ainoko Sadiq-27 votes and Rt. Hon. Ismaila Inah (Soul lover) AKA Okpologidi-06 votes.
