By Yusuf Abubakar.
Kogi East senator, Atai Aidoko Ali has promised to end the epileptic power supply in Igala land by resuscitation of the moribund Anyigba power station located at Abadigba in Dekina local government area.
Chairman senate committee on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) made this disclosure when the youths of Oyifu converged over his re-election bid in Anyigba.
Aidoko pledged to liaise with the senate committee on power to address the lingering power outage.
He described Anyigba as the commercial nerve of Igala land and expressed worries on the low outage of power in the area.
According to Aidoko, it is disturbing and quite discouraging that cosmopolitan towns like Idah, Anyigba, Dekina, Bassa, Ankpa, Ogugu, Ugwolawo, Oguma, Ajaka, Abejukolo, Onyedega and other locations only pay higher bills to AEDC without commensurate supply of electricity.
“It is not out of place to make available electricity to rural areas, but the AEDC need to redistribute power supply to Igala land by prioritising and taken cognisance of commercial towns.
“When you embark on a trip from Lokoja to Anyigba, Ejule and its environs, the supply of light in villages is encouraging, leaving the commercial nerves at the mercy of power outage.
“We appreciate efforts by AEDC to keep the area afloat, but it must address other areas that will ameliorate cost of living, improve social activities and reduce crime in these areas.
“The multi billion naira power station abandoned in Anyigba was meant to address the problems of power supply to Igala land, parts of Benue and Enugu states,” he said.
The Kogi East senator said he will see to the completion of the project earlier earmarked by the defunct PHCN to improve the economic activities of the area.
Senator Aidoko described power as the most important social amenity to every community, saying the donation of transformers will be counter productive without improved power output.
