The Kogi State Government has attributed the sanitation revolution in Lokoja and other towns and villages in the state to the proactive efforts of the government towards ensuring a cleaner and safer state for the benefit of the citizenry.
This was stated in Lokoja in Sunday when the Director General of Media and Publicity to the Governor, Kingsley Fanwo addressed newsmen. He said a hugely transformed Lokoja has been one of the “biggest achievements” of the present administration in the state.
His words: “When the Yahaya Bello Administration took over the governance of Kogi State, Lokoja was rated the second dirtiest state capital in Nigeria. Everywhere was stinking, a situation which stretched our health facilities to the limit.
“In healthcare management, the administration realized that it is cheaper to maintain a hygienic environment rather than battling to provide Medicare to people affected by an unhygienic environment, hence, the radical revolution in the Environmental Sanitation Policy of the State.
“The State Environmental Sanitation Board was re-jigged and empowered to perform its duties of ensuring a cleaner and more friendly environment.
“Also, the Ministry of Environment came up with creative ideas and advocacy that have positively impacted on the psyche of the people to see cleanliness is truly the next to godliness.
“Today, Lokoja is not only the second cleanest capital in the country, but also lightened up to boost night life and ensure security. The township roads have received tremendous attention from government and KOGROMA is now better equipped to make our roads better”.
Fanwo said the administration will continue to treat environmental and healthcare issues with “utmost importance”, saying healthcare delivery is one of the “prime priorities” of the present administration in the state.
He said government will not compromise the administration of environmental laws in the state.
