The leadership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ijumu Aarin has called on the political fathers of Ijumu to reemphasize their commitment to this principle of rotation and come down heavily on party member who attempt to undermine this age-long arrangement.
The party made this known in a communiqué issued at the end of Ijumu Aarin PDP leadership forum last week.
The communiqué signed by Pastor Stanley Ajileye and Elder Rotimi, chairman and secretary respectively, commended the wisdom of Ijumu political fathers, who have embraced the wonderful arrangement of resting the distribution of political offices and appointments in Ijumu on the fulcrum of the age-long traditional delineation.
The powerful and highly attended leadership forum reaffirmed her commitment to the principle of rotation, which has made Ijumu tall in its internal democracy, without which our communities may have been swallowed in anarchy and political acrimony.
“We praise the forth sight of our forefathers in establishing a sustainable structure and pattern for peaceful coexistence, fairness and social justice, through the rotation of traditional offices and tittles amongst the three districts of Ijumu Kingdom
“We call on the political fathers of Ijumu to reemphasize their commitment to this principle of rotation and come down heavily on party member or members who attempt to undermine this age-long arrangement.
“The party candidateship for the House of Representative in line with the existing order and arrangement has been zoned to Ijumu Aarin and we in PDP are determined to guard this slot jealously.
“It is disheartening that some elements from Ijumu Oke and Gbede are already undermining the rotation arrangement and our political fathers appeared to be looking the other way. If the party leaders refuse to call these elements to order, it may mark the threshold of an unending battle line that may surely erode the solid structure of our great party in Ijumuland.
“We will not hesitate in playing the spoilers game with them by raising our own candidates for elective offices zoned to other district if they are not called to order in good time.
“We are not unaware that some of them, who are parading themselves as PDP members, who are equally seeking to contest under the platform of our party, are agents of other parties, sponsored to weaken the formidable structure of our dynamic party.
“We in Ijumu Aarin PDP, in line with the counsel handed to us to handle the choice of candidates by consensus, have met and have streamlined our choice. We will present our candidate to Ijumu leaders without the necessity for primary that would cost the party much money.
“If speedy action is not taken on this matter, we are determined to rock the boat and nobody should blame the misfortune of the party on us if such a need arises,” the statement read.
