The senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District at the weekend had his convoy attacked by hoodlums suspected to be thugs allegedly loyal to the ruling party.
The senator was in Okene to attend the PDP stakeholders meeting which took place at the Dabras Hotel in Okene on Sunday.
As dignitaries were departing the venue of the event, hoodlums in there numbers opened fire on the senator’s convoy; amongst the vehicles riddled with bullets is the vehicle of the the PDP candidate for House of Representatives, Adavi-Okehi Federal constituency, Mr. M. I Onimisi.
Eye witness said the vehicle of the PDP Chief was seen with bullet holes.
Confirming the incident in his office in Abuja on Tuesday, Senator Ahmed Ogembe described the act as callous and irresponsible, and attributed it to those who are jittery of losing in next year’s election.
“These are clear signs of impending intimidation and harassment to cause confusion and scare people ahead of the general election. Those who think they have done enough to secure the mandate of our people should campaign to the people and stop constituting nuisance,” Ogembe said.
The senator also called on security agencies to rise up to their feet and embrace fairness and genuine commitment in the discharge of their duties, adding that no body can stop another from exercising his/her civic rights.
