The current alignments behind the two major candidates jostling for the Kogi West senatorial seat in 2019 with active connivance of some elites and some Abuja based money bag politicians is expected but calls for serious concerns and sober reflections.

I am not out to scuttle the ambition of anybody but the truth must be told that there is time for everything as stated in the book of Ecclesiastes.

The truth is that across the parties there is a serious agitation for a fresh representation that is sensitive and collective enough to aggregate the feelings and agitations of different segments and divides in Kogi West and galvanize them for good representation and development.

The two parties and the two candidates have succeeded in robbing the good people of Kogi West of a popular and acceptable representation with the consequences so glaring.

It has always been in the public domain that the senatorial seat this time should go to Yagba. Another hard truth that must also be told is that of all the candidates, looking at the pedigree community service educational attainment and public service records, Dr Toyin Akanle stands out. Unfortunately, it is the same Yagba sons and daughters that gave all negative information to Governor Yahaya Bello on Dr. Akanle. All the good aspects of this gentleman were concealed from the Governor.

Unfortunately, too, the opposition are now leveraging on this unfortunate development in APC to have a field day. Unfortunately, again, the money bags who are only interested in their businesses now line up behind the opposition in putting a seal on the Yagba agenda.

I have said it severally that the tragedy of an Okun man is to prefer their 5th eleven to their first eleven and they boast that the best does not usually emerge. The current defections and lining up behind the two candidates will confirm all these.

I can say categorically that these movements are not for service but for very parochial and selfish interest. A connivance to rob Kogi West of good representation. I have also said it that I will not weep more than the bereaved as some have asked me what my interest is pointing out that shouldn’t I be happy if an Ijumu man continues to occupy the Senate chamber. My answer to this is my interest is good representation good governance and fairness, no other interest.

My conclusion is that our politics need rebirth. Our politicians must have a rethink. They must not look at politics as an end but a means to an end. Representation must be sensitive, humble, collective and ready to give back. Representation must not be by executive fiat or arrogance but by popular acclamation.

In our politics, are we moving towards or backwards?

The current scenario shows clearly that we are retrogressing. Just thinking aloud.
