Member representing Okene I state constituency, Honourable Lawi AT Ahmed has urged Kogi State government and organized Labour to settle their differences and shelve the ongoing strike for the benefit of the masses.
In a telephone conversation with Kogireports on Tuesday, Hon. Lawi said the strike has crippled the state as schools, hospitals and other ministry are locked up.
“Our children are now at idling at home due to the strike and there is a popular saying which said an idle man is a devils workshop.
“I advise the union leaders to dialogue and interface with the government. I believe that is the only way to solve this problem, I don’t advocate for strike.
“And I am using this medium to beg the unions to shelve their strike and engage the appropriate government authority to address their demands.
“I urge all lovers of Kogi State to come together as a formidable force and support this government as we all know that good governance is not only for one person but requires everybody’s involvement and together we can achieve the Kogi of our dream,” he said.
Hon. Lawi also called on the state government to revisit the issues relating to non-payment of salaries and take the necessary steps in making sure that the plight of workers are addressed for the benefit of the masses.
The issues which Labour is demanding among others, full payments of salary and allowances to workers being owed between two and 21 months arrears. The workers are also demanding payment of outstanding leave, yearly incremental allowances and reinstatement of workers unjustly treated during the recently concluded screening exercise.
