Hon. Haruna Idoko Musa of Idah State Constituency in Kogi State House of Assembly, on Tuesday during plenary in a motion, called on the state government to construct and rehabilitate Idah Township Road.
While presenting the motion which is titled, “A Motion Calling on the Kogi State Government to Construct/Rehabilitate Idah Township Roads”, he stated that, “the importance of roads in any society can never be over emphasized, it provides human access to different places. Road make crucial contributions to the economic development and growth with its attendant social benefits to the community.
“The Kogi State 2018 Appropriation Law has provision for this demand, may it be resolved that Kogi State Government do embark on a massive construction and rehabilitation of Idah township roads to alleviate the suffering of the populace in this regard”.
Chief Whip, Hon. Victor Omofaiye while seconding the motion said since the township road is already appropriated for in the 2018 budget, it only needs some oversight exercise by the House Committee on Works and Communication to ensure execution.
Hon. Edoko Moses Ododo while supporting the motion emphasized on the importance of Idah to Kogi State as the Traditional Headquarter of Igala Land, it therefore needs more beautiful and befitting appearance.
Other members who supported the motion are, Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Hassan Abdullahi; The Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. (Barr.) Oluwatoyin Lawal and the Deputy Majority Leader and Chairman, House Committee on Works and Communication, Hon. Ahmed Mohammed.
The Majority Leader, Hon. Hassan Abdullahi and Hon. John M.U. Abah also supported the motion.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Matthew Kolawole while ruling on the motion appreciates the Executives for the favourable assent always given to the House Resolutions and added that Idah really needs to be immortalised and given a lifting face. He raised worry over former Governors of the State who are from the Eastern Senatorial District and supposed to have prioritised the development of Idah. He expressed confidence of consent by the executive after the passage of resolution.
Plenary held at Idah Local Government chambers as a result of the Local Government Tour the House has embarked and plenary adjourned till 7th of May at Ankpa Local Government Chambers.
