Yesterday, I think, I saw a video of some ineffectual buffoons singing;
“Sai Baba Buhari” in front of the Nigerian High Commission in London.
I think the piece below addresses them and so many others in Nigeria who thinks it is a norm to be a fanatical supporter of any politician.
“Yesterday on my way home from work, I wrote this long synopsis about the effect of ‘mental conditioning’ on people’s world view. It took me almost 45 minutes to finish.
I got to the submit button and decided to delete it. I felt it was worthless. I felt the long epistle was like preaching the value of education to a 9 year old Almajirai. How would he understand? It was pointless. Maybe if you give him food. Then make it a regular thing. Cloth him. Maybe you can win his trust. Then maybe you can preach to him that the food will be more regular if he learnt the alphabets? Just maybe you can finally succeed if you are persistent enough?
But then how about the Sheikh who benefits from keeping him wretched and uneducated? He won’t stay idle and watch you destroy his source of livelihood.
How do you change the orientation of 50 million people who are irresponsibly conditioned to passionately love the same people who are raping and destroying their destinies?
Give me ONE REASON why I should be FANATICAL about a NIGERIAN politician. Just one? And I have highly educated people who are ‘reputable’ members of the hailers club. If they benefit directly, it would have made sense.
But, they benefit zilch, yet devote their whole life hailing, supporting, praising rogues every blessed day.
Why? How do you explain this conditioning.
I remember Pavlov’s experiment. It’s terrible to be conditioned in a dysfunctional way. Just imagine how pathetic lions look in captivity when they’ve been brought up and castrated to be foolish and docile.
A cub in the jungle is conditioned to be an apex predator. It will grow to be an expert predator ready to kill for a meal. It has only one instinct. To prey. But in captivity, it will look pathetic and useless. Totally castrated with no sense of dignity.
Most Nigerians are now pathetic and castrated. The politicians have taken away all their sense of dignity. The conditioning is total and brutal.
How do you re-condition those who are not even aware of their mental bondage?
They will go: he’s the only Nigerian with integrity; he’s the only one who can save Nigeria. He’s their messiah.
The man is just okay. The most effective politician should only get a pass mark. There’s nothing to be fanatical about.
Your fanaticism is a product of your dysfunctional mental conditioning. You are pathetic. And I am sick of it.
I won’t delete this one. It’s not too long. Read it and be delivered.”
