A group, Tinubu-Karimi Beyond 2027 Political Movement, has called on the Nigeria Police Force to launch investigation into allegations of forgery of result sheet in relation to the recently conducted All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary in Kogi West.
Addressing a world press conference in Kabba on Sunday, the group urged police to arrest and prosecute all the people involved in the alleged forgery saga.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Hon Austine Medaiyedu stated that forgery is a criminal offence, adding that it is a deliberate attempt to bypass the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act, which explicitly attracts 15 years in jail.
The group also gave the party leadership 48 hours to publicly dissociate itself from the alleged forged results.
“As staunch believers in democratic principles, we are deeply concerned by the recent undemocratic tendencies and clandestine plots to subvert the will of the people through the forged primary elections results, in an attempt to imposing unpopular candidate on the electorates.
“The party leadership in Kogi state is allegedly desperate at attempting to foist a ‘consensus’ candidate on the electorate after a free, fair and transparent primary election that produced Distinguished Senator Steve Karimi has been conducted.
“Although we are not surprised that these desperate elements can go ahead to forge the result sheet, we only want them to realize that this is not going to be easy for them like the way they forged the fuel subsidy documents and got away with it.
“We totally and unequivocally reject any attempt to impose a candidate on the party,” he said.
The group demanded that the national and state leadership of the All Progressives Congress issue a certificate of return to Senator Karimi as the authentic winner of Kogi West Senatorial District primary election without further delay.
“We remain committed to the growth, stability, and ultimate victory of the All Progressives Congress in the upcoming elections. However, we will not stand idly by and watch a few individuals mortgage the collective mandate of Distinguished Senator Steve Karimi.
“We call on our teeming supporters to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and resolute as we continue to defend the tenets of internal democracy. It is too late to cry when the head has been cut off.”
