The Igala ethnic nationality in Kogi East senatorial district is set to develop an intermediate development plan for the next 20 years in an effort to bring the needed transformation to the area.

The Group made this known in a communiqué issued at the end of a two-day Igala Unity Conference (Ujeju Igala) organized by Ojuju-Agbadufu Igala at the Kogi State University auditorium, Anyigba.

In the communiqué which was signed by Ukwenya Christopher for the President in Council and made available to Leadership Sunday in Lokoja, the Group decried dearth of development in the district.

It held that, Igalaland which was once “a very prosperous land with rich economic activities lending money and resources to Kano Native Authority” had suffered serious neglect.

The Group emphasized the need to critically address challenges militating against development of the area, noting that, “the present economic realities in Nigeria have left no option than to re-strategise the economy for improvement.”

It expressed dissatisfaction with “the interpretation and application of the doctrine of equity in the determination of who- get- what in Kogi politics” stressing “The doctrine of equity presupposes proportionality of power sharing based on extant demographic data of the state and nothing more”.

According to the communiqué, the Igala people are satisfied with the on-going screening of the civil servants in the state as it was aimed to fish out ghost workers more so that Governor Yahaya Bello assured that no genuine worker across the state would be retrenched.
