Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has been commended for his rejection of a court ruling which ceded Ajaokuta, Lokoja and Kogi local government councils to the Igala Kingdom.
Alhaji Idris Babaango, the Chairman of Lokoja Forum of Patriots (LFP) gave the commendation while addressing a press conference in Lokoja on Tuesday.
He said that the quick response of the governor to the court judgement and his public stand against imperialism saved the situation from degenerating to a crisis.
Babaango said that the June 2 ruling of the Federal High Court, sitting in Lokoja, was a violation of the Land Use Act of 1978, saying that the judgement would not stand.
He said that the judgement was an affront on the culture of the people and an attempt to tamper with the rights of the original owners and custodians of the affected local governments.
The LFP urged the Federal Government to appeal the judgement without further delay.
He called for call from the indigenes of the three local governments, warning them against taking laws into their own hands.
Babaango said that peace should be maintained to allow for a logical conclusion of all ongoing legal processes on the matter.
