A sociocultural group, the Igah Progressive Association (IPA) in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, has called for the release of Col. A. U. Suleiman (rtd) who was allegedly arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The DSS had in a press statement said it arrested a criminal gang that terrorises the Lokoja-Abuja Road in a joint operations on Sunday night, including Col. A. U. Suleiman (rtd) and five others.
A statement signed by the National President and Secretary of Igah Progressive Association; Comrade Ekele Godwin Gowon and Elder Daniel Anyebe, respectively, called for thorough investigation into the allegation describing Suleiman (Babanawa) as ”a proud worthy son of Igah Community in Olamaboro LGA of Kogi”.
”Col AU Suleiman is a proud worthy son of Igah Community in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State. His antecedent as a philanthropist is unequal in the annals of history in Kogi East and the entire Kogi State.
”It is on record that the retired Col AU Suleiman is a man of integrity with reputable character, who recruited many into the Nigerian army during his service years.
”As a Philanthropist, he has supported many less privilege citizens financially for economic independence as a retiree and active politician who once contested the governorship of the state.
”His hurried hurl into detention and criminalization without thorough investigation is a breach of his fundamental human rights to fair hearing.
”The retired Col in his fragile age of over 70 years sacrificed on political alter is worrisome.
”We call for his release to enable him attend to his medication while we enjoin the authority to undertake a thorough investigation without bias,” the group said.
