In a landmark development, the Kogi East Elders Committee, in collaboration with various organizations, has announced Alhaji Yakubu Murtala Ajaka of Social Democratic Party (SDP) as the consensus candidate for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Kogi State.

The move aims to address the political challenges and multitude of candidates vying for the governorship position in the state.

The decision to adopt Ajaka as the consensus candidate was announced in Abuja on Monday by the Chairman, Arewa Consultative Forum and member of the Kogi East Elders Council, Arc. Gabriel Aduku.

The Kogi East Elders Committee urged all other candidates to unite behind Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka to rescue Kogi State from its current state of decline.

The committee acknowledged the high expectations of Kogi citizens and promised to fulfill their desires and yearnings.

They called on all citizens of Kogi State to support the candidacy of Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka as a collective project for the betterment of the state.

Speaking with newsmen on the sidelines of the announcement, a chieftain of SDP in Kogi state, Muhammad Ahmad, said the past years in the state, particularly in Kogi East, has witnessed a decline in development and progress.

“This development marks a significant step forward in addressing the political challenges faced by Kogi East and signifies the collective efforts of the Kogi East Elders Committee and various organizations. It is an opportunity for the citizens to rally behind a candidate capable of leading the state toward progress and development.

“To combat this, the Ukomu Igala Organisation formed a committee, supported by several stakeholders and organizations, to identify a consensus candidate. Through extensive engagement, evaluation, and consultations with citizens and critical stakeholders, Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka emerged as the chosen candidate.

“Four out of the nine candidates voluntarily stepped down in favor of Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, highlighting his capacities, popularity, acceptability, and network.

“Let us join hands and work together to rescue Kogi State, collapsing our structures and consolidating efforts for a prosperous and thriving region. The election, to be held on November 11, is a chance for the people to shape the future of the state and bring about positive change.

“May the upcoming election be conducted peacefully, and may the chosen candidate fulfill the aspirations and desires of the Kogi people, leading with good intentions. Together, let us build a better future for Kogi State. May God bless Kogi State and guide it on the path to progress and prosperity,” he said.
