The Publicity Secretary of Ijumu chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Mr Gbenga Bright has raised alarm over an alleged illegal and desperate moves by Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello to stop the on going work on Senator Dino Melaye’s constituency office located in Kabba, headquarter of Kogi West senatorial district.
Bright, in a statement issued to journalist in Lokoja, said reliable information had it that the governor has issued a directive to the General Manager of Kogi State Town Planning and Kabba-Bunu local government Administrator, Mr Moses Tolorunleke, to issue a ‘stop-work’ directive on the constituency office. He said their intention is to frustrate the finishing touches going on at the project site.
Explaining the status of the office, Gbenga Bright observed that the Kogi West senatorial constituency office was billed to be officially commissioned this weekend, adding that what is been done as at moment is finishing touches and upgrade of furnitures.

“I also wish to inform the public, our esteemed party leaders, members and the the good and loyal electorates of Kogi west senatorial district that all necessary legal rules, payment and processes of town planning procedures for such project was done satisfactorily, and all papers were given to us before the commencement of the building which is now due for commissioning.
“Distinguished Senator Dino Melaye is bringing development to Kabba town and a Governor who has not done anything positive for Kogi people, despite huge resources collected so far, is attempting to stop development and progress.
“Surely, this move by draconian Kogi State government is not in tune with the yearnings and aspirations of the good people of Kabba and Kogi west in general. This act is counterproductive, wicked, unfortunate, callous and an uncivilized display of intolerance.
“Survey shows that any responsible government will welcome good development regardless of the level of political disagreement. Kogi case is in reverse. Kogi state and Nigerian people will begin to ask fundamental questions on why our governor is so hell bent on losing focus and making frivolities his priorities.
“They shall begin to view our governor who deployed state resources heavily on an impossible recall project and now attempting to stop development at every point.
“We call on the people of Kogi state in general to see how the state government is making another attempt to generate crisis and insecurity in the state.
“This is becoming a terror-like government. We would not watch and allow a government that is immune to development and progress to stop the good intention of Senator Dino Melaye for his people. We shall not in any way accept a illegal display and manifestations of a government who lacks foresight and direction. We boldly say that we shall not succumb to the whims and caprices of a confused people who have lost completely the necessary relevance and legitimacy.
“We’re not equally unaware of their usual demonic plans to foment troubles and cause avoidable violence, but we assure them that we will not be cowed or intimidated. We yearn for peace, we call for peace, we advocate for peace, but surely, not the peace of the grave yard as being envisaged by the Kogi state govt under the leadership of governor Yahaya Bello,” he said.
Bright called on the Governor and his aides to desist from sinister acts as any attempt to breach their constitutional rights will be bluntly resisted.
