Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has commended the state House of Assembly for upholding democratic principles of checks and balances and doctrine of separation of powers.
Bello gave the commendation at a special anniversary sitting to mark the end of the second session and commencement of the third session of the 6th Assembly at the Kogi State House of Assembly complex in Lokoja.
He commended the lawmakers for ensuring the timely consideration and passage of the 2017 budget.
“You have not chosen the path of eternal warfare with the executive or the judicial arms of Kogi State Government. This has given us the liberty to focus on delivering our blueprint,” he said.
Bello reiterated his commitment to the independence of the legislature and financial autonomy, saying that he had kept faith with the house in his promises and urged the legislators to keep doing the right things within the ambit of the law.
Earlier, Speaker of the house, Alhaji Umar Imam, told the governor that the Assembly passed 251 resolutions within the last two years of its legislative activities.
