Governor of Kogi State, Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello, through the state project office of Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), has provided Okene township with durable waste bins.
The project coordinator, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto, who was represented by the environmental safeguard officer, Samson Mopah Benu, said the waste receptacles will reduce the indiscriminate dumping of waste into drains by the people.
She advised that the waste bins be put into proper usage, and well maintained too.
It would be recalled that the state government, through Kogi NEWMAP, recently desilted, fixed and reconstructed some broken drains in parts of Okene township, as a way of tackling the menace of erosion and flooding in Okene.
The waste receptacles, it is expected, would go a long way in curbing the challenge of indiscriminate dumping of wastes into drains.
In his response, the Local Government Administrator, Engr. Abdulrazak Muhammed, commended Gov. Bello for the wonderful gesture and promised that the bins will be used for the purpose they are meant for, stating also that it will help to prevent the blockage of drains in Okene township.
