A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi state, Mr. Oladele Nihi, has predicted that Okun land, in the western senatorial district, will soon become the economic nerve centre of the state.
In an exclusive chat with KogiReports, Oladele Nihi said Governor Yahaya Bello has laid a solid foundation for accelerated economic development of Okun land.
Oladele Nihi, the Vice President West Africa, Pan-African Youth Union, said the Governor Bello-led administration has invested in critical sectors of the economy over the past seven years with strategic focus on economic enablers.
“His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello has a soft spot for Okun nation and this is evident in the last seven years of his administration.
“The Kogi State College of Education (Technical) in Kabba was practically abandoned until His Excellency waded in and brought life back to the only higher institution of learning in Okun land. Today, same institution is expanding with study centres in other parts of the state.
“Healthcare has been a major concern for people in Yagba axis and patients get referred to distant places on a regular basis for not too serious ailments. Governor Yahaya Bello is changing the that with the ultra-modern general hospital complex in Isanlu.
“Before 2016, the major rice farming schemes by the state government were in Idah, Ibaji, Lokoja and Kogi local government areas. But Governor Yahaya Bello chose Ejiba for the rice mill project.
“The establishment of Okun University is the icing on the cake. We have seen economic impact of full fledged universities within and outside state. Governor Yahaya Bello has promised to witness the first matriculation of students in the Okun University before leaving office and this gives us a lot of hope.
“When we add the improved security, township road projects and the robust investment in human capital, it is obvious that Governor Yahaya Bello is laying a solid foundation for rapid economic development of Okun land,” he said.
Oladele Nihi called on all Okun patriots to join hands with the administration of Governor Bello to fast track the vision.
He admonished Okun people to support the APC candidate in the November 11, 2023 governorship election in the state, Alhaji Usman Ododo for continuity and sustenance of the vision.
He said while Governor Bello has laid and still laying a solid foundation, Ododo is the catalyst that will ensure rapid economic boom in Okun land.
