The government of Kogi state has described as spurious, rumours making the round since weekend that the state Governor Yahaya Bello slumped and died.

The state government refuted the claim in a statement it released through the Director General, Media and Publicity, Kingsley Fanwo. It said the governor was only on a two weeks break outside the country which was approved by the state House of Assembly.

The statement said, “Our attention has been drawn to the spurious rumour doing the round that there are concerns over the health of the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello. I want to state clearly here for the avoidance of doubt that the rumour lacks any iota of truth. It is a reflection of the depth the enemies of Kogi State have gone in their desperate angst against fate.

“To put the record straight, the governor is hale and hearty and in his unwavering vigour to make Kogi State the Confluence of Excellence. I urge all Kogites of goodwill to discountenance the rumour as His Excellency will return from his two weeks break, which was approved by the Kogi State House of Assembly, on the 12th of November, 2016,” the statement read.

The statement however, did not disclose the particular country the governor travelled to for his two weeks break and the reason for his travel.

The rumour of the governor’s death was strong over the weekend. He was said to have slumped at the Abuja International airport and was flown to Germany where he ultimately died.
