Over 3000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State, on Sunday, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The decampees were led by member representing Okene/Ogori-Magongo in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmed Tijani Damisa.

Speaking on behalf of the decampees, Damisa said they decided to join APC when they discovered that PDP leaders were not ready to win elections rather they were using the opportunities to make money for themselves and their families.

Governor Yahaya Bello, who received the decampees at a mega rally in Okene, declared that the PDP is dead in the state. He assured the defectors that they will be accommodated in the party.

“APC is like a family, any day you come, you automatically become a member of the family. There is hardly a day we don’t receive defectors from PDP, which shows that they are completely dead in the North-Central.

“The funny thing is that we don’t even know who will like to align with the PDP in the Central and Kogi state at large. However, whoever they decide to bring at the end of the day will be buried politically by APC. They are finished completely and you know what, God does not sleep, the evil they meted at our people is coming back to haunt them. They have no hiding place in the forthcoming election and that is why the good ones who have conscience are leaving the PDP every day.

“APC is better prepared to face the challenges we have today. The PDP want to resurrect and continue stealing our money but they will never get there again. Their time is up,” he said.

Addressing the mammoth crowd, Governor Bello said the stakeholders want Damisa to continue in 2019 to enable him deliver on his legislative and empowerment programmes.
