Kogi State indigenous Students across various higher institutions in the country smiled to the bank as the state government commenced payment of bursary allowance.
It was around 3pm on Wednesday the 23rd of May, 2018 when some students of Kogi State University, Anyigba express their pleasure through various social media channels as the state government under the administration of Alhaji Adoza Yahaya Bello commence the payment of bursary allowances to students.
Although, as at the time of compiling this report, only those who submitted their First Bank Plc account number during registration are said to have received payment alert while others are yet to receive.
Our correspondent, Ogiri Boniface, who confirmed this report said “Some students have been paid most especially those who submitted their first bank account during the registration.
It will be recalled that on July 19th 2017, the Governor of Kogi State Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello promised to increase student bursary allowances by 300%.
These payment varies according to the level of institution and courses offered. The allowances to be paid according to the Governor is as follows :
NCE: 9,000
OND: 9,000
HND: 12,000
BSC: 12,000
While all medicine and Law students are entitled to the sum of 19,000 naira respectively while registration fee by each student was 650 naira.
It would also be recalled that in March 2018, the government promised to pay the allowance in second week of the month but all effort to meet with the promised proved abortive and this aroused anger and doubt from all concern students.
When contacted, a student who crabed anonymity expressed his happiness towards the alert at this critical moment but urge the state Government to as a matter of urgency do something on the salaries of their parents as the bursary allowance of 11,240 is not enough to pay school fee.
Another students who also craved anonymity said “The payment was made because of 2019 election”
All effort to reach students from another university, who are also an indigenes of Kogi State, to confirm if payments has been received proved abortive as their lines were not reachable.
