THE committee set up by  Kogi State Government to reveiw the Sally Tibot Staff Audit Exercise yesterday submitted its report with a call on Governor Idris Wada to place a continuous searchlight on certain parastatals and ministries over their alleged roles in the ghost workers scam.

The ministries and parastatals singled out for constant monitoring included those of Works, Agriculture, Health and Education.

Others included the Office of the Head of Service, Office of the Accountant General, Health Management Board as well as the Science and Technical Education Board(STEB)

The Chairman of the Committee and former Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Alhaji Sani Adamu, while submitting the report to the governor, revealed that in Steb, for instance, majority of the over 500 teachers deployed to the organization have found their way into other employments as a result of being redundant while their salaries were still being paid by the board.

The report equally expressed concern over what it described as the indiscriminate recruitment of staff in certain organizations like the State sanitation board.

The Chairman said it was disheartening to note that “despite the huge resources channeled to the sector,” Lokoja remains the dirtiest city in Nigeria.”

Responding, Governor Idris Wada who described the summary of the report as “disturbing” promised to take a holistic approach in tackling the challenges in the sector.

“A situation where only a few individuals out of dishonesty are getting paid for doing no work is bad for the society and the country. I can assure you that their days are numbered.” he stressed.
