General Christopher Musa reminds me of General David Patraeus, a renowned American Military Officer who played a crucial role in combating terrorism in Iraq.
General David Patraeus served in the multi-national security transition command in Iraq in 2004, and equally served in the 82nd Airborne Division commanding the 101st Airborne Division during the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
He, General Patraeus is credited with developing and implementing a successful counter insurgency strategy in Iraq which included;
*Increasing troop levels to secure key areas
*Clearing areas of insurgents, holding them secure and then build local institution
*Partnering with local forces.
Today, General David Patraeus holds a special place in the history of counter insurgency wars across the world.
I want to believe that as military czar, our own General Christopher Musa Gwabin must have heard and possibly study General David Patraeus strategy in the fight against Banditry and Terrorism in Iraq.
No doubt, since the insurgency started during the reigns of General olusegun Obasanjo with the south south ijaw boys who laid the foundation for the present kidnappings and Banditry, and down through the reign of late Shehu Musa Yar’Adua which kickstarted Boko Haram, we have not witnessed a military Era with the present Tactical acumen in dealing with the pandemic.
Prior to now, what we had was uncoordinated military adventure wherein the Air force, Navy and Army were fighting exclusive battle of supremacy.
The moral within the force were low, and corruption exposed our men to dangerous battle of wit with obsolete war machines imported from extinct battle fields of Afghanistan and others.
However, General Christopher Musa Gwabin has changed the narrative.
His understanding of international diplomacy, and conspiracy theory in war situations stood him out among those who held that position of chief of Defence staff before now, and one wonders where he was all the while.
His grammatical finesse, his bold theoretical analysis of history of the insurgency and his understanding of solutions makes him a General in the Cline of General David Patraeus who is known as a specialist in war against terrorism.
General Christopher Musa Gwabin’s gifted knowledge of professional coordination of the security chief of the Army, Navy, Air force and the Police has exposed the weaknesses of the various Bandits across the country. No doubt, much success has been recorded under his security command structure. Of course, with the input of the Henry Kissinger of our time, Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser to president Ahmed Tinubu.
The actions and modern professional approach adopted under the watch of the security chiefs with General Christopher Musa Gwabin coordinating has indeed renewed our hope of peaceful and united entity called Nigeria.
King David in the bible faught many battles in Israel and prevailed, of course with brilliant Generals by his side , one of whom was Joab, and till date, you can’t talk of King David many battles without mentioning the name of Joab.
In years to come, the name; General Christopher Musa Gwabin will resonate whenever the war against bandits and terrorism is mentioned in Nigeria, particularly under the regime of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is gifted in assembling best and gifted brains to work with him.
Indeed, there’s hope for our beloved country.
