Former Head of State to Chair Late Maj-Gen Abisoye Inaugural Lecture

Former Military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon will chair the Maj-Gen (Rtd) Emmanuel Olumuyiwa Abisoye Foundation’s inaugural annual lecture.

The Lecture, titled ‘Nation Building or Nation Fragmentation: Reflections on 20 years of Post-military Rule in Nigeria’, which will be delivered by Professor Ambassador Ibrahim Agboola Gambari CFR, is scheduled to hold on Saturday, 13th July, 2019 in the University of Abuja Main Campus at 12noon. President Muhammadu Buhari will be the Grand Special Guest of Honour.

According to a press statement signed by the Foundations Board of Trustees Chairman, Maj-Gen. David Jemibewon, the lecture will be an annual event.

Maj-Gen Emmanuel Olumuyiwa Abisoye CFR, whose sad event took place on Friday, 17th March, 2017, was the Ogbajiri (the Chief Warrior), and the greatest icon and defender, of Ogori heritage and culture.

Abisoye was also the first Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Abuja. The late war General was at various times the Adjutant General, the General Officer Commanding the 2nd and 3rd Infantry Divisions of the Nigerian Army; the Federal Commissioner for Health, Chairman of the Movement for the Creation of Kogi State; the Chairman, Implementation Committee for the Creation of Kogi State; and the Chairman of Kogi State Foundation amongst many other meritorious services he rendered to his fatherland.

In recognition of his selfless service to Nigeria and to immortalise his name, the Maj-Gen (Rtd) Emmanuel Olumuyiwa Abisoye Foundation, has been set up with notable and distinguished patriots as members of the Board of Trustees. One major activity of the Foundation, amongst many others, is to hold an annual public lecture in areas of tremendous interest to the Nation and humanity at large.
