Candidate of Action Alliance in the November 11 Kogi governorship election, Otunba Olayinka Braimoh, has flagged off a football tournament for teams across the 21 local government areas of the state.
The football tournament tagged ‘Kogi Unity Cup’ was flagged off in Ankpa township on Friday with a match between Ankpa United and Olamaboro United clubsides.
The match which ended in a barren draw at regulation was decided through penalty shootout. Ankpa United FC emerged victorious.
Speaking with newsmen on Sunday, Braimoh reiterated his avowed commitment to his STAT Agenda for the state.
Represented by Ogwu Stephen (a.k.a. Bishop), Braimoh said the competition is currently in the knockout stage across the three senatorial districts, and the final match will hopefully take place in Lokoja, the state capital, before the end of the year.
Bishop said the Action Alliance candidate, in his usual way of promoting peaceful coexistence in the state, decided to organize and sponsor the football competition
He explained that as contained in the STAT Agenda of the Action Alliance candidate, whose mantra has been “I Will Make You Happy,” Otunba Olayinka Braimoh’s main focus is to do everything humanly possible to bring unparalleled happiness and unity of purpose to the state, and he will stop at nothing to achieve this.
“In spite of his bitter experience during the November 11 governorship election, he sees football as a major promoter of peace and unity across the world and decided to sponsor the Kogi Unity Football Match, not just to celebrate the spirit of football but to primarily strengthen the bonds of unity among the diverse communities in Kogi State.
“Through this competition, the state will witness the prowess of its local government football teams, promoting a sense of pride and unity across regions.
“It is an established fact that Otunba Olayinka Briamoh is a symbol of love, peace, and unity. This is why he should be encouraged to take the state out of its present precarious existence and into the promised land,” Bishop said.
In the course of his electioneering campaigns, Braimoh promised, among other things, to create sporting facilities across the state to create more opportunities for youths to develop their potentials.
