The leadership of the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) has commended the management of Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Lokoja for being labour-friendly.
The General Secretary of NUAHP, Comrade Martin Egbanubi, gave the commendation when he led a national delegation of the labour union on a courtesy to the Medical Director of FMC Lokoja, Dr Olatunde Alabi, on Monday.
The NUAHP scribe described FMC Lokoja as a leading light among other federal medical centres in Nigeria.
He commended the Alabi-led management for building a world-class laboratory, restructuring the dental department and expansion of service in the physiotherapy and other units in the medical centre.
Egbanubi appealed to the management to look into issues surrounding call duty for dieticians in the health centre.
He also called for internship in laboratory science and physiotherapy departments.
Responding the Medical Director commended NUAHP for “playing their roles very well.”
Dr. Alabi said his administration has completed eight out of ten ongoing projects inherited from previous managements.
He assured the labour leaders that a conducive structure will be built for physiotherapy department in 2022 as provisioned in the budget.
Alabi, however, warned union leaders not to place unionism above their primary assignment in the medical centre.
He said the management will not hesitate to sanction erring members who abdicate their responsibilities in the hospital under the guise of union activities.
“Henceforth, I will go round the wards to monitor workers. We won’t tolerate absenteeism. Workers must be productive,” he said.
NUAHP comprises health professionals including medical laboratory scientists, physiotherapists, pharmacists, health information managers/officers, dieticians and radiographers.
