Flood: Kogi Appeals for More Funds

The Kogi State government has appealed to the international community and presidential committee on flood for more funds to enable it meet the challenges of rehabilitating displaced persons and reconstructing damaged infrastructure.
The state deputy governor, Yomi Awoniyi, who made the appeal when he appeared before the committee, said more funds were needed to tackle the devastation done to the state by flood.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Abu Michael, Awoniyi said with the heavy losses recorded by the state and its meager monthly allocation, the flood committee was vital to the state in its risk reduction measures and provision of relief materials.
The deputy governor said aside request for more funds, building materials are also needed for the construction of houses for the victims.
He said the state government is already doing a lot in rebuilding damaged infrastructure such as roads, schools, residential buildings and hospitals.
He added that the cash support solicited from the committee will assist in direct cash assistance to victims who lost their businesses and other valuables.
Responding, chairman, presidential committee on flood, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, said aside expected support to states, the committee is working towards ensuring that the nation does not experience such again.
