The Kogi State government has declared that it received over N1 billion after taken stock of donations  received from sympathisers during the flood disaster that ravaged the state during the last rainy season.

The donations came from Federal Government, states, corporate organisations, and individuals.

The deputy governor, Mr Yomi Awoniyi, during a chat with Community News disclosed that the government was yet to spend the money as being rumoured in some  quarters.

He said that various committees have been set up to determine the real people that would benefit from the donations.

According to him, the N500 million released by the Federal Government was not for sharing but meant to buy relief materials for the victims to cushion the effects.

According to him, “all the money donated are in safe keep, the N500 million donated by the Federal Government is specifically meant for buying relief materials and for post flood settlement
“I am surprised some miscreants are going round protesting that they want to share their money, I want to tell you that there is no money to be shared.

“And those who think by going to the streets, they can stampede us are making a mistake, we are resolute in providing a permanent settlement for the victims and there is no going back.”

The deputy governor stressed that most of the structures affected by the flood had no proper government approval, saying that those structures and area affected would be reclaimed by government and converted as tourists centres

Awoniyi disclosed that besides cash donations, the Federal Government and corporate organisations including churches  have donated substantial relief materials which he said were in custody.
He, however, praised Alhaji Aliko Dangote for donating N430 million, Jide Omokore for donating N50 million and Abdulrazaq Kutepa for donating N10 million to the victims.
