Flood Alert: Awoniyi Appeals to Kogites Living in Flood Plain Areas to Relocate

In view of the water rising level of the Rivers Niger and Benue, the Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, has once again appealed to those living in the flood plain areas of the State to move to higher ground.

The State Deputy Governor who also doubles as the State Chairman, Flood Relief Management Committee, said the State would not want to be caught unaware this year by the flood, appealed to those who are ill and others living in areas considered as prone to flood to move to higher ground as report already shows that the waters are rising.

While noting that the State government has began the building of rehabilitation camps in the last year’s affected Local Government Areas, the State he explained is now well equipped to handle the challenges this year’s flood may pose.

The State Deputy Governor, appealed to the people not to wait until the flood catches up with them, disclosed that the post flood housing scheme under construction by the State Government to cater for flood displaced persons has reached an advanced stage.

Awoniyi, appealed to the people to be vigilant, to listen to information bulletin regarding the expected flood, so as not to be caught napping.

He equally disclosed that the State Government has directed for the mapping out of all houses on the flood plain as Government intends to turn the disadvantage of the flood plane areas into its advantage.
