The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said that 16,059 farmers in nine local government areas of Kogi State will benefit from its Emergency Agricultural Intervention Fund (EAIF).
NEMA’s state Team Leader for EAIF, Mr Oluwatope Ajayi who disclosed this to newsmen in Lokoja on Thursday said that the farmers were those affected by the 2018 flood.
He said that the farmers were from Bassa, Ibaji, Lokoja, Idah, Kogi, Ajaokuta, Ofu, Igalamela and Omala local government areas of the state.
According to him, NEMA is embarking on the intervention in line with the directive of the National Food Security Council under the chairmanship of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Under the EAIF, Ajayi said that the farmers will receive assistance directly as grants in form of inputs; Fertilisers, Seeds, Agro-chemicals and others.
He said that his team which arrived the state since April 15 had commenced the verification of all farmers slated to benefit from the special grant.
Ajayi commended the Secretary to the state Government, Dr. Folashade Ayoade and the state Commissioner for agriculture, Mr. Kehinde Oloruntoba for the support given to the team so far.
He said that the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Agricultural Development Project (ADP) and the State Ministry of Agriculture are working with the team to ensure a successful exercise.
