The bill for the establishment of Federal Medical Centre Ankpa, Kogi state, has passed second reading in the House of Representatives.
Leading the debate on the bill, the sponsor, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Ali Halims (APC: Kogi State) stated that its proposed passage would provide platform to improve the quality of life and medical services received by the good people of Ankpa, Omala and Olamaboro federal constituency and its environs.
Rep Halims also expressed concern for patients who have constantly suffered ailments as a result of inadequate modern health facilities needed for their diagnosis and treatment.
He further said that the Federal Medical Centre Ankpa, when passed and signed into law for immediate take off, will reduce maternal child mortality rate within the federal constituency.
While concluding his debate, Hon. Halims noted that “when the federal institution of this magnitude is established in Ankpa, it will support the infrastructural rollout that will eventually drive socioeconomic development in the area in particular and state at large.”
The bill was subsequently referred to the House Committee on Health for further legislative input.
