Dignitaries, family members and well-wishers yesterday poured encomiums on the late nationalist and one time chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Chief Sunday Bolorunduro Awoniyi during a special memorial service held at the First Baptist Church Mopa in Kogi State to commemorate the 10th anniversary of his demise.

A former governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris described the late Awoniyi as a role model who ensured fairness in all his dealings.

Senator Tunde Ogbeha on his part described the late Awoniyi as a devoted patriot who demonstrated a lot of passion for the development of northern Nigeria.

The ACF in its goodwill letter read by its representative JP Uba, said the forum would continue to remember him as one of its founding fathers. The Forum in its letter recalled that the late Awoniyi was on his way to Kaduna on November 19, 2007 for an ACF meeting when he had the accident which led to his death.

In her remark, the widow of the late Awoniyi, Mrs Florence Awoniyi, thanked the dignitaries for the honour done to her husband even in death.

Earlier in his sermon, Rev (Dr) David Daniyan said the late Awoniyi contributed greatly to the development of the church in Mopa.
