Kogi State Karate Association has appointed Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu Ejidike, as its chairman. Ejidike, who is also President of Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN), commended the state for the gesture.
“I thank people of Kogi State for this honour bestowed on me which shows the spirit of oneness and patriotism,” Ejidike said.
“This is a call to sustain our existing goals of contributing to sports development, supporting government efforts in repackaging our sports for global interest and motivating individuals to participate in sports development,” he added.
North Central Coordinator at the National Sports Commission, Dr. Olusegun Akinlotan, told National Mirror that the appointment had recognised the outstanding contribution of Ejidike to sports development.
“Chief Ejidike has demonstrated his passion and commitment at the grassroots and international levels,” Akinlotan remarked, while urging endowed individuals and private organisations to emulate Ejidike’s philosophy.
The coordinator also congratulated Team Nigeria for what he described as the team’s sterling performance at 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
“This success calls for celebration but we should not forget to seek ways to consolidate ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympics,” he submitted.
