It is so whammy that politics in the present society is more commercialized than it’s hell-bent. That’s the reason some old folks groom Alh. Jibrin Isah Echocho for Kogi East senatorial position. What are you talking about? Is Echocho not from Kogi east? Of course! He is, and he has attained the prerequisites as senatorial aspirant – An ex-director of the defunct AfriBank, a two time governorship aspirant and a nineteenth centuries’ philanthropic stalwart. Are you now saying that his academic excellence and innate wasn’t exploited enough for commercial values? Far from that. It’s just that his political methodology posits a no snob-value. As a concerned denizen, i am keenly convinced that giving him the senatorial mandate is simply a status quo. Honestly, we will be heading to the fire from gridiron.
There is a nebulous here. Aproko! Please do the listening while I do the talking. Okay boss. It’s just that I am considering a National audience. Whatever! Wait make I land fest.
In 2010, Echocho surfaced on the political fore with hurrahs. Within a week, he became a boulevard for every Kogites. In fact, I was expecting another George Washington of America in Kogi state.
Luckily, he won the January 9th 2011 PDP governorship primaries but not without vote manipulation through ‘power that be’. However, transitory was the felicity as aggrieved aspirants protested the outcome which eventually led to it’s cancellation coupled with a prolonged tenure of the then governor, Ibrahim Idris. When the supreme Court gave Idris ‘pink slip’ without prior notice, PDP Kogi was stripped of probable vetoes. Therefore, organizing a fresh primaries became alternatively apposite.
Interesting. But how does George Washington’s political career correlates with that of Echocho? What do you children of nowadays learn in school? Even a catachrestic knows George Washington was the only president in America to have won 100 percent electoral college vote in 1787.
The rescheduled fresh primaries exposed his (Echocho) major weaknesses – CONFUSION. He was practically betwixt in challenging the adjudicated fresh primaries or taking part in the exercise. However, the media was subsequently laundered by the news that his godfather (Ibro) has made a u-turn by anointing his inlaw, Idris Wada – a punching arms that landed Echocho into purchasing fresh nomination forms and started campaigning all  over again.
So what was the result of the rescheduled primaries? Wada won but was thrown into legal squabbles with Echocho.
In fact some of us who watched from the fence knew Echocho has lost it the moment Wada became the card-carrier of the incumbent government.
Excuse me boss. How could Echocho start campaigning afresh when consultations should be on course? My brother! By their fruits, ye shall know them. Echocho was a cabal in AfriBank plc before his political aspirations, where is AfriBank today? Besides, there are two things that work in Nigeria’s political settings – STRATEGY and CAPACITY. Echocho has the capacity but lack strategies.
Persuasion from PDP’s National and state leaders for an out of court settlement was turned deaf ears by desperate Echocho. Yet, he lose the case. But boss, Echocho should have conceded to the plea bargain since it involved the major stakeholders. At least there would be a consensus arrangement that may favor him thereafter. My brother, Echocho was brainwashed by some political brigands and propagandist who lend credibility to his nineteenth century’s philanthropic gestures.
When APC was formed, he was contacted by both the National and state leadership of the party to decamp but was non committal. His major supporters like Ikani Okolo and Abdullahi Bello also nudged him to decamp but the confused Echocho was reluctant. However, the above mentioned duo who were also aggrieved PDP member in Wada’s government immediately decamped and were given juicy position at the green chamber courtesy of APC.
Towards the governorship election in 2015, Echocho who was swimming between APC and PDP took three more confused decision;
1- Ran to labor party.
2-Approached Sam Aro to use his Accord Party platform And finally,
3- He resettled for PDP and hoped someone was coming to rescue him since all option have failed.
Shortly after, Echocho became a trapped mouse as Honorable Hassan Beiwa who branded his campaign in 2011 decamped to APC. However, three political gangster wooed him to re-contest in the governorship race in 2015 following a cooked stories by his media merchants that Wada has stepped down for him. On the day of the governorship primaries, the trio were in town but refused to show up at the venue- Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
Notwithstanding, the result from the PDP primaries showed Echocho actually won the trio’s local government but failed in his own local government.
At this juncture, it was obvious that his popularity was more of media hype than it ought to have been. As a matter of fact, Echocho became a paper-weighted politician and a global symbol of shame.
Interesting! But did he concede defeat? Of course he conceded. He was quoted as saying “Wada can win, I will work with him.”
Boss this is the character of a true statesmanship. You are right, but my problem with Echocho is the insatiable quest for governance. After the failed September 14th governorship primaries, he decamped to APC to support his father in-law and the late prince Abubakar Audu, and upon Audu’s demise, Echocho reduced himself to a working tool for Yahaya Bello and his mouth-piece.
Wait a minute, I hope you are not referring to the white lion of Lugard House? No, I am referring to the black Lion of Okene. Common sense is indeed not common at all. Have you forgotten the theory of character portraits? Besides, the alter of equity is sacred. Whoever comes to it must come with clean hands. If Echocho has gotten his political priorities right, may be some supreme forces that shopped for prince Audu as APC candidate would have considered him since Mr Audu was not in good term with Buhari’s family.
Anyways, let me not wake the sleeping dog but as a law abiding citizen, I must however emphasize that Echocho’s political ambition is filled with gross incompetence. Honestly some people have ganged up to enthrone kleptocracy.
The man they rally behind cannot even handle his own immediate family let alone, the population of over three million people. But how could Echocho allow himself to be used to murder democracy? My brother your answer is simple- man’s quests for power, wealth and respect. It is so sacrosanct that they are willing to lose for it. But the irony is that, Echocho (the nineteenth century philanthropist) who, according to his e-minions could give up his last breathe to salvage his people from any pitiable condition has joined the league of those sharing civil servant’s salaries – an act that a true statesman should detest. Oh yes! The health practitioners slumping while on duty or the helpless civil servants committing suicide are less important to him. The Fulani terrorist killing our loved ones, and turning husband, wife, father, mother, children, brother, sister, uncle and friends to persistent mourners is inconsequential to his political aspiration. All that matters to him is the continuous quest for governance as if that will give him the license to live forever.
I just hope Echocho and his pretender-democrats, agents of political mischief and educated but uninformed elites will lecture us on philanthropic/humanitarian ethics once more.
While the shaku-shaku dance on folds, we will remain steadfast in patriotism. I heard that work has finally commenced on ICDA building. So we must relocate to Anyigba immediately to relieve Echocho. From what? Is he the bricklayer? On the contrary, he volunteered as site- supervisor, and as our incoming senator, work-loading him is not healthy coupled with his politically confused state. We will go there and supervise while he confronts the task of going to Lokoja to sign for funds.
But I heard ICDA already have a building. Is GYB and Edward using Echocho to renovate it? My brother, according to a popular music legend Tuface Idibia, “If na two heads dem de use we go know.” Your question is best answered when we get there. However, your duty at the site is to spearhead the supply of building materials to the site including cement. Do your findings on the actual cost of a bag of cement from Dangote company since Obajana cement company is closer to the site. You know Echocho sold his only plaza in Abuja to raise fund for the building. We must not allow unscrupulous individuals to enrich their pocket with. Moreover, I will be doing spiritual consultations for Echocho since he won primaries in 2011 with artificial power. Combining spiritual powers with that of the white lion of Lugard house will sail Echocho to victory and the white lion himself will have a smooth ride back to Lugard house in 2019. By tomorrow, I will visit Satguru Maharaji temple to see if he can actually help out.
What will I gain if I must go with you? My brother, its a voluntary job. Moreover, the unpaid, starved and homeless civil servant as well as the bereaved victims of Fulani herders attacks in Abejukolo and Oganenigu will relocate to the building. They would live there and wait for manna while they prepare to vote the white lion and Echocho in 2019. Are you in or out? I am in. When do we embark on the trip? As soon as I get confirmation that all pledges towards the building project, including the volkswagen and 33 seater bus pledged by the mouth-piece (Edward Onoja) have been redeemed. Lest I forget, you know there is no motorable road in Ajaokuta. We must get there early so Egbira towing van do not close for the day else, we would have to pass the night there.
God will help us in Kogi East.
