The Ebira’Vonya Women Association, popularly known as Fancy Women in Politics, on Saturday demonstrated its grassroots strength with an impressive mobilization that filled the Muhammadu Buhari Civic Centre, Lokoja, during the commissioning of the Remi Tinubu Pension and Treasury House and the flag-off of a major nutrition intervention programme in Kogi State.
The association, under the leadership of Hon. Abdulkadir Rukayat Ajoge, turned out in large numbers to receive the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, alongside Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and other distinguished personalities from across the country.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Ajoge attributed the association’s massive participation to its appreciation of Governor Ododo’s people-oriented leadership, describing the newly commissioned projects and the nutrition initiative as practical interventions that will positively impact women, vulnerable families and ordinary citizens across the state.
She particularly commended Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Initiative, noting that the First Lady announced a ₦100 million donation to support the nutrition programme. She also praised her for rallying notable Nigerians, including Tony Elumelu, Don Jazzy, Davido and other philanthropists, to support the campaign against malnutrition and promote the economic empowerment of women engaged in small-scale businesses.
Hon. Ajoge further dismissed the recent negative narratives surrounding the First Lady’s comments on akara business, describing them as deliberate attempts to misrepresent a message that was intended to encourage self-reliance and improve the livelihoods of poor women and low-income families.
According to her, Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s message was rooted in economic empowerment and should be viewed within the broader context of creating opportunities for women rather than through political misinterpretation.
She urged women across Kogi State to remain actively involved in politics and governance, expressing confidence that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration would continue to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people.
Hon. Ajoge also acknowledged the unwavering support of the Kogi State Auditor-General for Local Government, Hon. Siyaka Yakubu Adabenege, whom she described as a dependable pillar behind the association’s activities and a strong advocate for women’s inclusion and grassroots development.
The event attracted political leaders, government officials, traditional rulers, women’s groups and other stakeholders from within and outside Kogi State, underscoring the significance of the projects and the state’s renewed commitment to social welfare and inclusive development.
