Pensioners in Kogi State have appealed to the state government to extend palliatives to them to cushion the economic hardship they are facing in the country.

The Kogi State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Comrade Clement Ohida, made the appeal during an interview with our correspondent on this year Easter day celebration.

“We are praying that palliatives should rich pensioners in Kogi State. They should give us some relief of packages that will ameliorate our suffering. Inflation is hitting so much on all Nigerians including pensioners.

“The economic hardship is affecting everybody either you are a pensioner, civil servant or anyone in the country. Inflation does not discriminate. What pensioners are taking can not carry us through the month. I will say God has been the one sustaining us.

“The pensioners are really hard hit with the present economic situation because we are taking percentage especially at Local Government level. Full payment is not enough not to talk of half.

“We are very sure that the Government will do something because they have done it in the past and the present administration is willing to do more for pensioners in Kogi State,” he said.

Ohida further appealed to the Kogi State Government to improve their welfare, and pay their backlog of gratuities and harmonize pensioners in the State.

He, however, charged pensioners both Christians and Muslims to imbibe the spirit of oneness and sustain the true practice of their fate.
