Disability Not The End of Life – Kogi Commissioner

Those living with disabilities have been told by the Kogi State Government not to see their challenge as the end of life rather see the abilities in them through their challenge.

Kogi State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Bolanle Amupitan, stated this while marking this year’s international day for people living with disabilities in Lokoja.
The Commissioner said the state government is working through making people living with disabilities self reliant, noting that government holds those with disabilities in high esteem.
She said the day is not marked with funfair in the state owing to the paucity of funds, said a day would however be set aside for the celebration as soon as funds are released.
Mrs Amupitan said government has made the provision of appliances and aids to People with disabilities cardinal, assured of government support that would make them live rewarding lives.
While noting that people living with disabilities would have a place at the rehabilitation centre when the centre is finally handed over to the Ministry by the contractor, commended the Gov Yahaya Bello for the rehabilitation carried out on the center.
The commissioner said talkshop, motivation talk and skill acquisition strategies has been packaged as part of activities to mark this years day for people living with disabilities, lamented the shift for the celebration that would hold when funds are released.
Mrs Amupitan described people living with disabilities as special gifts from God, said they occupy a special vantage in the administration of Gov Yahaya Bello.
The commissioner disclosed that people living with disabilities have been part of decision making in activities that concern them, assured that they would be carried along towards having government policies and program aimed at making the lives of people with disabilities sustainable and independent.
