Unhappy with the delay in the release of April salary to workers in Kogi State, the Nigeria Labour Congress, Kogi State chapter, has warned the government against dragging the labour force into unspeakable crisis.

The state chairman of NLC, Comrade Onuh Edoka, however, urged the civil servants in the state to remain calm while the negotiation is ongoing. He urged the state government to expedite action to settle the matter, adding that nobody should take their silence for weakness.

“Nobody should take our being civil in the matter as weakness since we have the capacity to shut down the state,” Onuh stated.

Onuh who was speaking on a radio programme yesterday in Lokoja, stressed that the state government has to respect the state’s workforce to avoid friction.

One of the top members of the newly inaugurated labour union, Abuh Adaidu, told LEADERSHIP Weekend that the government is over stressing the patience of the workers, pointing out that the day of reckoning is here.

He maintained that the governor does not need 632 aides in a State like Kogi State where nothing is working. He noted that a colossal amount is spent on aides doing nothing in a state.

Meanwhile, a senior adviser to the state governor, Mr Jones Salifu, has stated that since the state workforce was not used to salary delay, it would definitely affect them when salary is not paid.

He noted that a state that is not used to salary delay for workers should be appreciated if there is shortfall in the allocation that could not meet full payment of salary to senior workers.
