I am constrained by recent increase in criminal activities within Okunland to call for attention and assistance.
The introduction of AMOTEKUN in Western part of Nigeria, though yet to properly take off, is already having ripple effects on Okun land. Compared with last year, there is about 38.63% increase in crime.
Within one month, about 50 fully armed bandits operated at Apaa/ Agbede along Lokoja-Kabba road. They robbed and abducted several people. They were driven away with assistance of soldiers.
Again, Ekinrin-Adde, Egbeda Ega and Iyamoye communities, along Kabba-Omuo Ekiti road, are currently experiencing massive invasion of both cattle and herdsmen.
The people of Aiyetoro Gbede can hardly go to farm at present. Recently, about three hunters were accosted and their guns collected by Fulani herdsmen with AK47.
The Royal fathers of Ejuku and Jege, in Yagba East local government, reported Fulani herdsmen harvesting yams to feed their cows. All Tivs farming around Isanlu axis are leaving due to persistent attacks by Fulani herdsmen.
The happenings in Bunu land is better imagined as the Fulani herdsmen have become the lords of the areas.
The security demand on the purse of Okun Development Association (ODA) is too much. All men of goodwill need to come the aid of the association before things get out of hand.
