The Director General,  Consumer Protection Council (CPC), Barr. Tunde Irukera, has applauded the commitment of the founder, Tiny Beating Hearts Initiative (TBHI), Mrs Petra Akinti Onyegbule towards cushioning challenges related to premature birth in Kogi State.
Irukera gave the applause on Wednesday when he received the TBHI team led by the founder in his office in Abuja.
He also praised the organization for its vision, stressing that it was rare to see an NGO advocating for premature babies whom he described as children that survived against all odds.
He says; “It is so sad that as a people, we don’t pay much attention to some of these issues.  The chances of every child is at best, unknown. Some of these children born at prematurity stage, truly fight to live. Who knows what any child could become in the future?
“This is why we really need to support preemies to live against all odds and I must commend the initiative of this body. Efforts like this should challenge any one. For me, it is a new level of philanthropism and care for the people. This is not even a space for electoral capital and it is such a challenge to see you committed to such a course,” he noted.
He therefore encouraged the NGO to continue with its good works, and called on capable individuals and groups to assist them so as to ensure it charts forward with its good course.
Director of the NGO, Mrs. Petra Akinti Onyegbule had earlier intimated Barr Irukera of the essence of the visit and the background to TBHI as well as its objectives. She also solicited support for their advocacy programme launch that would assist pregnant women and their unborn babies.
According to her;  “A lot needs to be done to reduce neonatal challenges. We have four different programmes we are about to launch.
She said when fully launched, the programmes proposed would target and try to tackle all aspects of care for premature births, including wholesome care for mothers and their babies.
