The popularity of the Deputy Majority of House of Representatives, Hon Umar Buba Jibril may have hit an all-time low as his constituents in Lokoja have described his third time tenure as a failure.
The people spoke in a fact finding interview conducted around the Kogi State Capital, including his home street of Kabawa where he is currently embarking on a few meters road repairs which they added smacks of desperation on his part.
Respondents said he was using the road project and the Medical Outreach Programme, both in Lokoja as a bait to getting them to vote for his return for the fourth time in what has become known as ‘Season Four’ by both those in support and against his potential candidature.
To his backers, he has done well and deserves another shot at the National Assembly seat for Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency, while those opposing him have myriad of reasons they do not want him back.
Some people have come out to make case for him, saying his experience would come handy in the next Assembly and that his current position as Deputy Majority Leader puts him in good stead to becoming the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives.
Others have however discountenance the claims, saying he had had little or no impact on the people of his constituency, except few persons who had benefitted from him.
Some equally described him as an insatiable greed of a politician whose only interest is self perpetuation in power at the detriment of the rest of the areas that make up the Federal Constituency.
Suleiman Ali was equivocal when he mentioned; “Who betrayed the political arrangement in the constituency for his personal gain? It was Hon Buba. He knows nobody other than himself. We are therefore saying whatever it is he has even achieved, he should just go.
“Let me tell you, forget the fact that several people are not coming out to speak their minds. Most of us that are against him are not on social media, but you will see. Any party that gives him ticket should just forget it. We are mobilising hugely to vote him out.”
Mrs Halima Isiyaku was among the most vocal respondents. She said many women group that worked for the legislator have been betrayed as all promises he had made to them have been left unfulfilled.
She therefore called on her fellow women to be vigilant in the next election by voting in credible people whose words are their bonds.
