The Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Nasir Ajanah has joined his voice to the growing agitation for the need to build sophisticated security around the Nigerian Prisons.
Justice Ajanah who made this called while field questions from Journalists when he visited the Koton Karfe Federal prison yesterday following the attack on the Prison which led to the death of a Warder and the escape of 119 prison inmates.
He said the visit has become necessary because the Koton Karfe prison is very strategic to Kogi state since there is no one in the state capital, stressing that all high profile awaiting trials are kept there, hence the need for those saddled with the administration of criminal justice in the state found it expedient to visit the prison to ascertain the extent of damage.
The CJ added that the judiciary is concerned about the lives of the inmates of the prisons, adding that the government at all levels will do everything possible to protect lives and property there.
Justice Ajana called on the Federal government to expedite action on the new prison site in order to meet the standard of modern prisons in the country, noting that the Koton-karfi Prison is one of the oldest in the Country built in 1933 and the complaints has always been that there must be improvement in the living conditions of inmates.
